Impressive Results For Perez And James In Rally Mallorca

Kick Rally Team Logo

Kick Energy rally drivers Steve Perez and Mark James put the experiences of last year to good use when both recorded impressive finishes on the eighth running of the three-day Rallye Clasico Isla Mallorca held on the popular Balearic Isle.

Perez from Chesterfield and co-driver Carl Williamson claimed a brilliant fifth place overall in their Dansport-prepared 1974 three-litre Porsche 911 in the Competitive section whereas James recorded a fine 12th place overall in the Regularity section in the Porsche 911 in which Perez won the 2003 British Historic Rally Championship.

Despite a small misfire, Perez, the three times British and National Champion and Williamson spent valuable time setting up the car for the rigours of the Spanish island’s roads and put the lessons they learned on their debut last year to good use to bring the car home safely. Group Managing Director James, also from Chesterfield, reported no issues and was happy to consolidate on last year’s result in which he drove a Lancia Stratos.

Starting outside the marina at Puerto Portals on Thursday evening, there followed two tests around Soller prior to the overnight halt before day two on Friday saw a total of six stages starting near Calvia in the south and finishing up at Fornalutx in the north. Saturday’s final day saw crews head north again for a loop around the towns of Pollenca, Lluc and Alcudia before the finish back in Portal Nous.

Perez said: “We really enjoyed the trip last year so the plan was to put into practice what we had learned and it seems to have paid off. My car had a slight misfire which we never quite managed to cure properly but we had no major problems. Mark was using the car in which I’d had a lot of success so I was pleased that he got a good result too. It’s still a bit intimidating when you see some of those huge drops but Mallorca is a wonderful place to visit, especially to do a rally.”

Perez will be next in action over Easter when he tackles the Circuit of Ireland Rally at the wheel of his Ford Focus WRC.
