Wiseman’s Succeed at ‘Pint Size’ Rallying!

Last weekend saw the Wiseman Dairies sponsored Pirelli TEG Sport Junior Rally Team score a hard earned finish on the South West TSH Stages Rally.
16-year-old Arron Newby from Carnforth was competing in only his third ever rally and was partnered by regular Wiseman Dairies British Rally Championship co-driver Jules Wilkinson.
The event covered over 70 miles of stages on a mixture of tarmac and loose surfaces and was a round of the Junior 1000 Rally Championship whereby the pair scored a creditable ninth overall in the Junior Championship class, thanks to the hard work of the whole double British Championship winning TEG Sport team and crew.
After a cautious start to familiarise himself with the wide open stages which made up this difficult rally, Arron started to set competitive times which continued to improve with each of the first day’s stages and more so as the pair got used to each other in the car.
But bad luck intervened when a drive shaft snapped towards the end of day one, resulting in a couple of stage maximum times which dropped them down to last. However, after a late night of hard work by the TEG Sport mechanics, the car was fighting fit and ready to go again by Sunday morning.
Good weather prevailed on Sunday and a maximum attack was launched by the crew. Arron was on a quick learning curve and stage by stage, his times began to improve and he and Wilkinson slowly clawed back time to finish ninth.
Speaking afterwards, Arron said: “It’s only my third ever rally and I’m really pleased with my progress this weekend, I’ve been driving the door handles off it! It must have been all that milkshake! There was a lot to learn here because the stages were tight and twisty with crests, narrow lanes and gravel tracks which has been great for trying different set ups. Jules has helped my confidence in the car and I now know we can make a big difference on next weekend’s round of the championship, I will take everything which I have learnt and put it to good use.”
Wiseman Dairies co-driver Jules said: “Brilliant! What a great weekend’s rallying, he has had a lot to take in this weekend, this is big boy’s rallying and I’m amazed at how well Arron has managed all the elements which you need to have to achieve a good result. It’s easy to forget he’s only 16 years old, especially when you are entering chicanes flat out and fully sideways! I really think this is the start of something much bigger and I would like to thank Wiseman Dairies, Pirelli, TEG Sport and Revolution for their continued support in making this achievable.”
The next event is this coming weekend Saturday 21st May at Blyton.
