Paul Bird Motorsport.
Owned by the charismatic multi-millionaire poultry magnate, ‘Birdy’ used to race Motocross at GP level before forming his own race team in 1994. Since then, it’s been the success story of British bike racing with highlights including British Superbike Championship titles with Steve Hislop and Shane Byrne, a British 250cc title with John McGuinness, British Supersport success with Stuart Easton as well as GP points and WSB victories and a Superpole. Wins at Macau, NW200 and Daytona amongst many others underline the team’s success but the crowning glory was probably Joey Dunlop taking his last ever Formula One TT victory on a PBM bike, just a month before his tragic death in 2000. Nowadays Birdy combines his rallying with his bike team and won the 2005 MSA Gravel Rally Championship and is a three times winner of the Malcolm Wilson Rally.

Steve Perez is the modern day ‘Mr Rallying’ owning a wide selection of cars from the venerable Ford Escorts through to his crowd-pleasing Lancia Stratos, a Porsche 911, the historic Datsun 206Z and a legendary Audi Quattro, culminating in a couple of Ford Focus WRCs which he puts to good effect each time out. Steve puts lots of money into rallying through various schemes and is no mean driver himself, winning the 2003 British Historic Rally Championship which he followed up a year later with the MSA National Gravel rally Championship. A serious accident whilst contesting the East African Safari Rally last November has seen him on the sidelines recently but he hopes to be back rallying soon.
