Dunlop Great and British Motorsport Festival Championship Car Race MeetingSaturday 22nd/Sunday 23rd August 2009
This weekend (August 22/23) sees Croft Circuit near Darlington host the penultimate round of the popular Dunlop-backed Great and British Motorsport Festival with a feast of racing scheduled for local fans.
Visiting many of the UK's top circuits and organised by the BARC, the series has seen capacity grids in most classes and once more will feature various categories for sports and saloon cars with the aim of delivering superb action, featuring some of the best British Championships.
Heading the action is the BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup whereby the production car championship, which is a potential feeder series to the BTCC, will see a varied mix of cars with BMW, Alfa Romeo, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Renault, Nissan, Fiat, Citroen, Seat and Mini battling for top honours. At present, Simon Shaw leads Martin Wallbank in Class A with Abbie Eaton and Dan Malone leading Classes B and C respectively.
Further tin-top action will come from the Mini Challenge, with packed grids of Coopers and Cooper S works models battling for victory over the weekend whereas the Mini Se7en and Mini Miglia competitors will also be in action over the two days.
Fans of Le Mans style sports car racing are catered for with the Radical Club Cup and competitors will be in action for their penultimate double header meeting. After defending champion Jonathan Wright's winning run of six successive races came to a halt last time out at Castle Combe, rival Colin Millar will be looking to repeat his double win again to close the gap.
In addition, the BARC Westfield Championship will see drivers battle it out over a pair of twenty minute races, as will the CSL Cup competitors.
Practice gets underway at 09.30 on Saturday with the first of seven races scheduled to start at 11.45 with Sunday's action seeing a further ten races starting at 12.30.
Adult admission is just £10 on Saturday and £12 on Sunday, including free paddock and grandstand seating (if available) with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE as well as FREE parking. Further information is available at www.croftcircuit.co.uk or www.barc.net
