Fantastic Frank Ends The Season In The Points

Lake District racing driver Frank Bird ended the season in style by scoring points in the final round of the 2018 Formula Renault Eurocup Championship in Barcelona this weekend.

The Tech 1 Racing Team driver from Penrith posted a battling tenth place finish in the opening race in the Paul Bird Motorsport, Be Wiser Insurance, Hager, Loco Energy Drink and Frank Bird Poultry-backed car after a race long battle which saw a lengthy safety car intervention.

Holding 12th going into the final lap, the 19-year-old Cumbrian had to take evasive action when two drivers immediately in front of him collided and only his fast reactions saved him from being involved as he hung on to add to the points scored earlier in the season.

Frank couldn’t manage to repeat the feat in the second and final race at the famous Spanish track but reflected on a tough but successful season in one of Europe’s most competitive single-seater classes.

Frank Bird:  “It was a difficult final race of the season but was good to get another top ten finish in race one whereby the plan is always to score points. It’s been a tough year, but our pace has been much stronger than the results and it’s fair to say we needed a bit more luck at times. But we made a huge step forwards from last year and I’m pleased with my progress. I’d like to thank the team for all their hard work, our valuable sponsors, my dad and the rest of my family, my trainer Sam and management team Infinity. We will now weigh up our options and I’m looking forward to what’s coming up next.”
