The new Ciceley Motorsport GT Team took part in their first long distance race at the weekend from where they emerged victorious following the Creventic 2 Hour of Dubai.

Included in the successful team was Penrith-born Frank Bird whereby the 18 year old was making his debut in the front wheel drive Generation 4 Renault Clio UK Cup car and teamed up with Ciceley Motorsport’s British Touring Car Championship driver, Adam Morgan, the team’s Renault Clio UK front runner Max Coates as well as experienced German racing driver Harald Rettich, GT expert Adam Hatfield, GT5 contender Max Bird and Jake Giddings.

A successful qualifying session set the team up for the race but despite the conditions in the Middle East and encountering a number of problems throughout the race, the various drivers, including Frank, performed brilliantly to take victory in the important A2 class after completing a total of 509 laps.

Frank Bird: “What a fantastic experience and to come away with a class victory is brilliant for the whole team as a massive amount of effort has been expended to achieve this. Driving front wheel drive for the first time was great and thanks to Adam for the superb tuition before we left for the event. I’ve learned a lot about everything to do with racing this week and to get my first major win is a dream come true. Thanks to the whole Ciceley Motorsport team as well as Paul Bird Motorsport for the opportunity, it’s the first win of the season and I hope we can have many more.”

Norman Burgess, Commercial Director: “We did it! We won our first endurance race here and we are the A2 class champions of the 2018 Dubai 24 Hour. A big thank you to everyone on the team from the mechanics to the drivers, every single member of our team played a vital part in our success. Thank you to all of our supporters too for the amazing messages, we are literally overwhelmed with the support. We plan to do a few more events with the Clios throughout 2018 stating at Silverstone in March then Spa and Monza.”

Meanwhile, next weekend sees PBM Team Owner Paul Bird back in rally action where he is seeded at car number three for the Darlington & District Motor Club-organised Jack Frost Stages Rally in association with Cartersport.

With County Durham co-driver Jack Morton on the maps in the Dom Buckley Motorsport/IRS-prepared Ford Focus WRC08, with backing from Frank Bird Poultry, Be Wiser Insurance, Hager, WIX Filters, Silkolene and Loco Energy Drink, Bird has won the Croft Circuit, North Yorkshire-based event four times in the past so will be looking to add a fifth victory to his tally.
