A week after announcing that they were supporting a local charity via an online auction, Lake District-based Paul Bird Motorsport have been overwhelmed with the response for two pieces of unique memorabilia from the Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team’s 2018 British Superbike Championship season.
The specially-made Corbeau pit box seats of both multiple champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and team-mate Glenn Irwin, who both won races in 2018, are up for auction with all proceeds going to Carlisle and North Lakeland Hospice at Home. So far, the best bid for Shakey’s seat is £580 with Glenn’s currently at £420 meaning a minimum of £1000 has been pledged so far.
The online auction will run until 12.00 noon on Friday 14th December 2018 and subject to prompt payment transfer, the seats will be delivered in time for Christmas so there’s still time for a present which no one else in the world will have! Links to the pair of auction lots are as follows:-

In addition to his continuing role as proud ambassador to the Down’s Syndrome Association, whereby he has raised over £10,000 so far this year, team owner Paul Bird is delighted to be supporting the Carlisle and North Lakeland Hospice at Home, a charity which relies largely on the generosity of the public and local businesses and provides quality, palliative care and support to patients, family members and carers affected by life limiting illness. Meanwhile, at Jerez in Spain today, Be Wiser Ducati team riders Scott Redding and Josh Brookes got their first taste of the factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 which they will be using in the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Both ex-MotoGP rider Redding and former BSB champion Brookes reported very favourably after taking to the track slightly later than expected due to a damp start but made steady progress on the bikes.
The new machine sports a 1103cc desmodromic 90° V4 engine introduced by Ducati in 2018 as the successor to the V-twin engined 1199cc bike on which PBM claimed a pair of British Superbike Championship titles in 2016 and 2017. The “Panigale” is named after the small manufacturing town of Borgo Panigale and uses the new Desmosedici Stradale V4 engine, derived from the Desmosedici MotoGP racing engine.
The opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on Easter Sunday (April 21st) 2019. For further information, please visit www.britishsuperbike.com and check back soon for a brand new PBM website at www.pbmuk.net.
