Penrith-based Paul Bird Motorsport Ltd last week presented a cheque for £10,000 to the Down’s Syndrome Association following on a recent charity dinner attended by six times and reigning British Superbike champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne.
Having joined forces with Friends of Force who hosted the 9th Annual Rail Industry Electrical Engineers Dinner Dance in Kent, this year event organiser Nev Leary agreed with PBM team owner Paul Bird to raise funds for the Down’s Syndrome Association, of which Paul, from Langwathby, is an ambassador.
Collecting the cheque at Brands Hatch, on behalf of the Cumbria Down’s Syndrome Support Group, was Dave Leslie. Dave is a massive fan of the Be Wiser Ducati Racing Team who were competing in round six of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and saw rider Glenn Irwin take a double podium.
Paul Bird: “It was an honour to present Dave with a cheque for £10,000 for the Down’s Syndrome Association at Brands Hatch and I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of helping raise that money. Thanks to Shakey for his help with this too, he tells me he’s delighted with the amount raised on the night. As an ambassador for such a worthwhile cause, we will continue to look towards other fund-raising opportunities in future.”
